Is the Earth's Sun really a star?

My friend Rudy told me yesterday that the Sun is a star. Is that for real? Stars are, like, way tiny! Rudy also told me a gopher that looks like it's wearing lipstick lives under his deck, but I totally don't believe that. I hope the Sun isn't a star. I won't know what to believe from Rudy anymore.
