yea, you're right. it is keangkuhan. you're lucky the JAIS person agreed, sometimes they'll say that we saje nak memperjatuhkan Islam and such. but actually its more to sikap prihatin. if we're staying near a temple or church and we can hear them preaching, obviously it'll make us somewhat uncomfortable even if we tahan je but still. since you've called JAIS, why not tell the orang surau about it and see if it can be solved.
