Why does my cat have a thing about my left thumb?

For the past few days my Russian Blue cat has been staring at my left thumb. She always has that wary look cats get and she cautiously reaches out her paw to examine and smell the thumb. She does it when I'm lying down but not at other times. What is she doing?
